OVERVIEW - POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY -
This is a four-year course for high school graduates or those having the equivalent education to become technical leaders or vocational training instructors.
Upon graduation, students are conferred a bachelor’s degree by the National Institute of Academic Degrees and University Evaluation. The course features many hours of experiments and practice, which are essential for vocational training instructors, and a requirement for subjects related to vocational capabilities development. In addition, the course underwent thorough reviews to better meet the demands of the times, and the resulting changes a change of department names, the addition of curriculum to develop the ability for career counseling and coordination of training courses, and the addition of technique- and skill-building programs to meet the ever-accelerating innovations.

The university has long contributed to human resources development by accepting and conducting training for core vocational training instructors and vocational training-related engineers from 92 developing countries since 1963. This training program is conducted as a joint program with the Japan International Cooperation Agency and constitutes part of the government’s commitment to international technological cooperation. Also we have accepted Japanese government-financed overseas students in the Undergraduate Course since 1992 and in the graduate school since 2000.

Responding to changes in the vocational capabilities development needs brought by changes in the industrial structure and progress in technological innovation, the course conducts training of vocational training instructors for vocational capabilities development centers throughout Japan systematically and in stages, In addition, the course also offers assistance and consultation on vocational training instructor training.

The Institute of Research and Development
The institute conducts surveys and research on the development and improvement of vocational capabilities, publicity and dissemination of research findings, and provision and transmission of vocational capabilities-related information. The institute comprises two divisions and eight offices: Planning and Administration Department (Planning and Coordination Office, Dissemination and Promotion Office, and Vocational Training Teaching Materials Office); Research and Development Division (Advanced Training Laboratory, Jobholder Training Laboratory, Teaching Material Laboratory, Teaching Technique Laboratory, and Survey Laboratory) The Institute of Research and Development.
TOKYO INSTITUTE, POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY
This is a two-year course where students systematically learn basic to advance skills and techniques required for their majors. The course enables students to acquire the fundamentals required of practical engineers (“engineering technician”), that is, core engineers capable of manufacturing what industry circles are eagerly pursuing.
The education Training system is based on the following: 1) learning not by independent theories, skills, and techniques but through an organic fusion of these three; and 2) an original curriculum that incorporates a great deal of experiments and practice.
This is a two-year training course where students further improve the basic expertise and skills acquired through the Specialized Course to master advanced skills, techniques, and planning and development capabilities. Through an unparalleled, unique educational training system, this course provides appropriate fundamentals, which the current industry world requires of leaders at the production sites. The educational training system is based on the following: 1) task learning of both knowledge and practice, giving due consideration to the realities of manufacturing sites; and 3) a new approach called the “working group approach,” where students undertake a common task as a group while leveraging each member’s expertise. This new approach helps facilitate creative manufacturing.

|Summary||Polytechnic University was established by the Japanese government and is under the management of Japan Organization for Employment of the Elderly, Persons with Disabilities and Job Seekers.
